Restoration of the Titular Painting & Frame at the Church of St Ubaldeska

The upcoming restoration of the titular painting of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Church of St Ubaldeska, Paola, together with its ornate frame, marks a significant achievement in the preservation of our parish’s artistic and devotional heritage.

The painting, the work of the renowned artist Lazzaro Pisani, has, over time, been affected by age, dust, and natural deterioration. Through meticulous conservation, the surface will be carefully cleaned and stabilised, allowing the original vibrancy of colour, delicate detailing, and expressive qualities of the Sacred Heart to be beautifully revealed once more.

Equally important is the planned restoration of the richly crafted frame by Emanuele Buhagiar. Skilled artisans will undertake the careful repair of structural elements, the cleaning of accumulated grime, and the reinstatement of its decorative finish, restoring its elegance and harmony with the painting it surrounds.

Together, these works will be returned to their former splendour, enhancing the dignity of the church and deepening the devotional experience of the faithful. This restoration work, in the 400th anniversary year of the founding of Paola, stands as a testament to our parish’s commitment to preserving its sacred art and honouring the legacy of the artists who contributed so greatly to its beauty. The Fondażżjoni Bażilika Kristu Re is working closely with the Bank of Valletta who are most generously funding this project.
